About Riotous Records

Dave Hyde got his start musically at a very early age. As a kid, he would often be found at home, playing music by himself or with his friends. His first real band was Those Naked Guys, a punk band that featured Dave, then going by the name Darby Foreskin, at the mic.

After TNG broke up in 1996, Dave bounced around the local circuit, doing time in bands such as Racecar, the Brockmeyers (for 2 whole days!), and a few others. He started another short-lived punk band called The Spoiled Brat with his friend Jeff Kurtis. After a short time, Dave left The Spoiled Brat in the hands of Jeff, returning only a year later to produce and record them.

It was after The Spoiled Brat that Dave joined his most commercially successful band, Showoff, as the bass player. Showoff would record two albums for Maverick/Warner Bros. Records, the self-titled debut and the never released follow up, before Dave left in early 2001. It was during his time in Showoff that Dave met and began working with DJ Dirty So -n- So, and also started The Surf Swirlies with his friend Jeff (The Spoiled Brat).

In 1999, Dave started his own label, Thumbs Down Records, as an outlet for his own projects and those of his friends. With Thumbs Down, he released 2 solo efforts, 2 Surf Swirlies albums, contributed to 4 DJ Dirty projects, and worked on a variety of other projects as well, including producing and releasing an album for the VA based band Squirt. In late 2002, Dave shut down the label and disappeared from music all together.

After a well-deserved break, Dave came out of hiding in late 2007 to start Riotous Records with his wife Shannon, AKA Alluvia. He formed the band Jesus Fucking Christ & the God Damn It’s with DJ Dirty So -n- So, and revived the now new and improved The Surf Swirlies with Jeff. He has also decided to dig into his past, releasing both a re-issue and unreleased material from Those Naked Guys, and claims there will eventually be a new Dave Hyde solo album. He states that “It will most likely suck worse than my first 2 solo records, since I’m using all my good ideas on all of the other projects I’m working on…It’s a good thing my stuff is always in the realm of experimental.”

In addition to his own projects, he is also currently producing a handful of other acts, including Riotous Records artist Entropy. He wants it to be understood that running the label, and producing and helping out other bands is his main priority at the moment. Dave welcomes bands of all styles and quality to submit their projects to Riotous. “I’d prefer to be used as a stepping stone for a band to get where they deserve to be. It’s my own way to honor all of the people who played a part in helping me attain the success I’ve had and continue to have.”
